The Mississippi Board of Public Accountancy was established in 1920 under the direction of the state’s foremost accountants at the time. Today the board is made up of seven CPA’s appointed by the Governor to serve terms of five years. Ever since the first CPA exam was administered in Mississippi in 1920, the Board has been dedicated to maintaining the highest standards by vetting aspiring CPAs through a rigorous certification process.

Education Requirements

CPA exam applicants in Mississippi must complete at least 150 semester hours of post-secondary education comprised of:

    • At least 24 semester hours in upper-level or graduate level accounting courses including:
      • Auditing
      • Financial accounting
      • Government/not-for-profit accounting
      • Management accounting
      • Taxation
    • At least 24 semester hours in upper-level or graduate level business courses

General Requirements

  • Applicants must be a resident of Mississippi
  • Applicants must submit an application for examination
  • Applicants must submit transcripts from each college and university attended
    • Must be official transcripts from the office of the registrar

Fee Requirements

The following fees must be paid before taking the CPA exam in Mississippi:

  • Application fee – $150
  • Registration fee
    • All four examination sections – $135
    • Three examination sections – $115
    • Two examination sections – $95
    • One examination section – $75
  • Examination Fees
    • Auditing and Attestation (AUD) – $192.03
    • Financial Accounting and Reporting (FAR) – $192.03
    • Business Environment and Concepts (BEC) – $172.51
    • Regulation (REG) – $172.51
