CPA Licensing Requirements in New Mexico

For Candidates in New Mexico that have Already Passed the Uniform CPA Exam

 Experience Requirement

Candidates applying for a CPA license in New Mexico must complete a Work Experience Verification form that documents at least one year of experience under the supervision of a licensed CPA.

Ethics Exam Requirements

In addition to passing the Uniform CPA Examination, all applicants for initial licensure must pass the American Institute of CPAs Ethics Examination, achieving a score of 90 percent or higher.

Additional Requirements

In addition to a completed application for CPA licensure in New Mexico, candidates must also supply the board with the following:

  • Passport-style photograph
  • A completed background check
  • An notarized Authorization for Release of Information form
  • CPA Certificate fee of $175

Continuing Education Requirements

CPA licenses in New Mexico expire on the last day of the license holder’s birth month, every third year (36 months).

CPA certificate holders must complete at least 120 hours of continuing professional education within the 36-month renewal period, with a minimum of 20 hours per year.

Continuing education must also include at least 4 hours of ethics education during the 36-month renewal period.
