CPA Licensing Requirements in Georgia


For Candidates in Georgia who have Passed the Uniform CPA Exam

Experience Requirement

Georgia requires that all applicants for CPA licensure complete at least one year of accounting experience (a minimum of 2,000 hours):

  • Applicants may gain this experience in public, governmental, business, or industrial accounting or by teaching at an accredited four-year college or university in at least two upper-level accounting areas
  • Applicants must be supervised by a currently licensed CPA in the state of Georgia

Education Requirement

  • At least 150 completed semester hours and a bachelor’s degree
    • 30 semester hours must be in upper-level accounting classes
    • 24 semester hours must be in general business classes (not including accounting classes)

Continuing Professional Education Requirements

The CPE requirements for maintaining CPA licensure in Georgia involve:

  • Completion of 80 CPE hours every two years
    • At least 16 hours must be in accounting and auditing
    • At least 20 hours must be earned in each year
  • If an applicant has been certified for at least one year, but less than two years, only 40 CPE hours are required
    • At least 8 hours must be in accounting and auditing
  • CPA licenses go up for renewal on December 31 of odd numbered years
    • There is a $50 biannual fee for license registration

If an applicant has been certified for less than a year by the first renewal period, there is no CPE requirement.
