CPA Licensing Requirements in Wisconsin


For Candidates in Wisconsin who have Passed the Uniform CPA Exam

Education Requirements

Baccalaureate degree to include 150 credit hours with specifics as described above under Exam Education Requirements.

Candidates must earn a minimum grade of 75 percent on all four sections of the exam in order to be eligible for licensure.

Experience Requirements

Candidate must have at least one full year of accounting experience working for either a public or private company/agency. Experience time can be accrued by working part-time; however, experience gained before college graduation does not count.

Fee Requirement

Fees required for CPA certification include:

  • $75.00 application fee
  • $75.00 Ethics examination fee

The total of $150 is to be submitted with the license application.

Ethics Exam Requirement

The Wisconsin ethics examination can be taken online. Candidates are sent an exam pass code and detailed instructions for taking the test upon receipt of their license application.

The timed test consists of 50 questions focused on the Wisconsin Statue and Administrative Code governing the profession.
Candidates must receive a passing grade of 80 percent or better.

Continuing Professional Education Requirement

Active CPAs in public practice in Wisconsin must complete 120 hours of continuing professional education (CPE) within every three-year license renewal period.

It is suggested that the requirement be broken up into 40 hours of CPE per year.
